Volunteer Assistance
Submitted by Conway Spitler on April 20, 2007 - 3:04pm.What a great thing happened to the Alumni Association. Of course your executive director knew it would great; however, it is even greater than in the past.
What is your executive director talking about?
Well we have two student interns from Mrs. Beylik's Regional Occupational Program at the Fillmore High School.
If you haven't met Mrs. Beylik, it is your loss. What a great teacher and friend!
But to the story! Guadalupe Barragan and Ana Aldana have come to the Alumni Office as employees. And what employees they have been.
Their skills on the computer make my head swim!
These young ladies will be with the alumni for several weeks learning what we do and how we do it. And I might add they will be adding some of their knowledge to the operation.
Your executive director appreciates the efforts of Mrs. Beylik and Ana and Lupe.
These young adults, from Mrs. Beylik's Regional Occupational Program, are placed in office throughout the city. If you could find the time to assist these seniors at Fillmore High, you and the students will profit. Think about it this time next year. Or better yet call Mrs. Beylik at the high school 524-6100 and they will connect you
to her office.

Dinner Voluneers 2007
Submitted by Conway Spitler on April 3, 2007 - 4:06pm.Volunteers are hiding behind the bushes it seems!
There are so many areas in which you might find an hour or two a week to assist in the activities of the Alumni Association.
Here are the broad categories: Accounting, Budget, Business Plan, Computer, Deposits, Dinner, Donations, e-mails, Fellowship Grants, Files, Finance Commmittee, Financial Records, Flashbacks, History, Insurance, Investments, Mail, Meetings, Plunge policy, public relations, reunions, scholarship, student of the year, subscriptions, taxes, telephone, volunteers and website.
The association cannot continue wihout assistance from the members. Many activities will have to be certailed or stopped if we do not have the personnel to handle that activity.
Volunteers needed - 23 Mar 07

There are small and there are large volunteer projects for the Alumni Association.
We, all graduates of Fillmore High, are members of the Fillmore High Alumni Association.
If you purchase a life or life/spouse membership you are issued special benefits with originally receiving the Flashbacks--newsletter--for your lifetime.
If you purchase a Flashbacks subsciption, this is $20.00 a year.
These items make possible many of the activities of the Association.
HOWEVER, in order to have these "activities", the& computer equipment, etc.
You would be a godsend if you would volunteer for one little project and keep that project updated and going until your retirement from this activity.
In the past we had a mailing committee. That committee met each time we wanted to mail a Flashbacks.
When we had volunteers, and I like to take the mailing committee, this is how it worked.
The Executive Director called Arlene Nelson, chairperson of the mailing committee, to say hat a newsletter was about to be mailed. Arlene would then call the committee which consisted of a large group of graduates and a few non-grads.
The committee would meet: Attached the labels which had,
to be sorted by zip code, stuffed the envelopes, sealed and banded by Zip code.
All the news was cussed and discussed and everyone had a great time getting up on the local news.
Now all we have to do is stuff the newsletter (it is already folded), place the first class stamp on the envlope. Then press the open label to the envelope so it will be sealed. Then the newsletters--almost a thousand, are placed in the post office to be mailed first class.
Put to just give the headings of volunteer items:
Sort & prepare notebooks regarding: pictures, alumni activitiies, etc.
Update Class folders
File materials in proper file
Update address
Follow up on ex-change students
Become a commitee chairperson
Update class reps
Finance Committee - Marla DeZavala has volunteered!
Keep updating addresses, marriages, e-mails, zip codes, etc.
Policy file - maintined
Subscriptions, new and renewals
Scholarship - receipients, history
Class lists updated
Class folders for each class from Fillmore High
Past president's file
Alumni flashes file
Homecoming kings and queens
Cheerleaders - updating
Board of trustees listing updated
Teachers at Fillmore, or were, at Fillmore High
Tours
And there are others!
What not pick an item you like? Make a time, available to you, to accomplish this task on a schedule set up by you. All this with lots of help from the executive director.
Volunteers
Submitted by Conway Spitler on October 4, 2006 - 2:31pm.If you have an hour or two once a week or every two weeks, why not volunteer to assist in the alumni office?
There are always little "projects" like life memberships which Em Casner Wendell '49 has been keeping up-to-date.
Deceased members listed so as to be available for the Brochure at the alumni dinner. Also checking the life membership list for accuracy regarding deaths. This has been done by Maria Diaz Kilgore '62.
You take the time to assist and the alumni office will accommodate your time and what you would like to do. Let us hear from you. (805) 524-0416.
