Resignation
Submitted by Conway Spitler on June 12, 2007 - 3:08pm.Thank you!
As I step away as executive director of the Fillmore High Alumni Association, I wish to thank my wife, Tillie Spitler, for her many, many hours of proofreading Newsletters and other materials, helping fold newsletters and placing stamps on envelopes. Also for the many hours of "putting up" with my "mania" for the Alumni Association. No matter how hard one tries, little errors continue to appear in the Flashbacks. Now it will be someone else’s "duty" to try and find those errors and have a better Flashbacks.
Thank you to all the graduates for your efforts to make the alumni association one of the best in the nation.

Alumni Dinner
Submitted by Conway Spitler on May 31, 2007 - 2:26pm.As of this writing there are only 159 reservations for the June 9 Alumni Dinner.
The newsletters have gone out, the newspapers have the information, and it has been on line and on the website. Wonder where are the alumni graduates?
The 2007 scholarship recipients will be present at the alumni dinner with their parents. The alumni scholarship committee felt that we had the best group of candidates for scholarships this year. The alumni dinner is a way to congratulate them for their accomplishments and to send them off to college, work or whatever in a happy mood. Also let them know that we stand behind them in every way possible.
There are two new listing sof the life members and life/spouse members posted on the website. Everything possible has been done to get the names, years of graduation and all information absolutely correct. However, the gremlin always creeps into the story.
It has been a pleasure to have Bill Reaves '60 come very, very early, all the way from the State of Washington to assist with the dinner and office assistance. Bill always has a "battle" with Johnny Benson Ward '61 in purchasing the first ticket for the next year's dinner.
With the low attendance this year, and the costs being the same, some wonder if this will be the last year of alumni dinners. Can you remember when we sit on orange crates at the high school for our doors.

ROP
It has been a pleasure indeed to have Ana C. Aldana '07 and Guadalupe Barragan '07 as interns in the alumni office for the past several weeks. These young ladies know more about the computer operation than the executive director does you may be certain.
Also Guadalupe has done the job no one wishes to do without objection. What job is that? Making the files look presentable and at the same time more readily available. These young ladies have stepped in the "job" without hesitation and doing a great job in assisting the alumni association.
My hat goes out to Mrs. Linda Beylik for training these students to such high standards.
These students know more about computers than many of us older generations.
DINNER
The most interesting dinner application came this week from Lindy Thomas Reilley '87.
Lindy came into the office and said she wanted to make dinner reservations for: John Reilly '88 (husband), Marguerite Bartels Gregory '30 (grandmother), Lin Thomas '59 (father), Judy Gregory Thomas '59 (mother, and Andrew Reilley '2007 (son). We have had generations like this before; however with four generations--it is quite an affair.
Reservations are close to 100; however, the number is lagging behind last year's number.
QUICKBBOOKS (Accounting)
Have received all the information regarding our new quickbooks for 2006. Now ungrading the budget for 20007. When in full operation, it will tell us where every penny is going much more quickly than with the old method. Our thanks go out to Brian McCoy who is an expert in this area.
ABSENCE
Your Executive Director spent a week in Connecticut and Massachusetts for the purpose of seeing our grand daughter graduate from Northeastern College in Boston, Massachusetts.
The enclosed athletic stadium was made into a commencement forum with hundreds of students receiving their "large" diplomas and degrees. Megan majored in criminalogy and was cum laude. She didn't even tell her father--we read it in the program.
What a beautiful conferring of honorary degrees, awards, and many such wonderful things that occur at graduations.
BOSTON
If you haven't been to Boston, you should visit. Go to the Prudential Tower and hear the comments about the history. You have read about them in the textbooks; however, you can see the areas where all that history happened.
This is my second attempt at typing this and getting it into the website. Pray with me!
E-mails
For those of you writing e-mails--answers are being done as quickly as possible. There are not a lot of people in the office to answer them.
At the moment Bill Reaves '70 has come from the state of Washington, as he always does before the dinner, to assist in any way.
This time I "stuck" him with the job of helping update the life and life/spouse memberships.
It will soon replace he information on the site.
As executive director, I do not know enough about the website to get it updated and this all takes time.
We get e-mails about the website on the Fillmore Unified School District. It has been disconnected (or whatever) and they do not have the personnel to keep it up. Our website manager has had a spat of illness so is behind a bit; however, all things will get done.
What we need our volunteers for the vast among of work that the website, etc. have generated. Appreciated by us; however, it does take time!
Alumni Office reopens
Submitted by Conway Spitler on May 14, 2007 - 4:01pm.Thanks to Joleen Stethem and two ROP Students--Ana C. Aldana and Guadalupe Barragan things went smoothly while the executive director was in Connecticut to see his grand daughter graduate from Nortwestern University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Will have to tell you more about the graduation. It was something to see an entire basketball court covered with caps and gowns! And all on TV on top of that.
More later.
There are 50 plus reservation for the dinner.
More later!

Alumni Office Assistance - ROP
Submitted by Conway Spitler on April 26, 2007 - 9:03am.Each year, Linda Beylik, instructor of the Regional Occupational Program at Fillmore High School has sent "qualified" and I mean really qualified students to various offices in Fillmore.
This program gives the students an opportunity to "serve" in the various locations throughout the city of Fillmore.
This year the Alumni Associiation has been fortunate to have Guadalupe Barragan and Ana Aldana--seniors at Fillmore High School in the ROP program.
The purpuse of the ROP is to "train" students for the business world. And they have great, and wonderful, training prior to be sent out to the various businesses in Fillmore.
These young ladies are very proficient on the computer. They do the work with efficiency and accuracy. As an "employer" they have taken quickly to the "workings" of he Alumni Assciation and many items that would not be taken care of as rapidly are being done by Ana and Lupe.
If you are opeerating a business in Fillmore and would like to learn more about the program, but even more importantly, to assist these young ladies and gentlemen into the business world, give Mrs. Beylik a call at the high school.
You will not regret this decision.
Conway Spitler, Executive Director and Treasurer,
Fillmore High Alumni Associaiton.
Ceramic Vases - Lupe Vasquez
Submitted by Conway Spitler on April 26, 2007 - 8:51am.
Lupe Villanueva Vasquez '51 has given a number of her "treasures" -- pottery -- for "giveaways" at the Alumni Dinner on June 9.
For several years Lupe, who resides in Ventura, has crafted these original and beautiful pottery items to be given at the dinner.
Our thanks go out to Lupe!
