Ray Fremlin class of '32

     Ray Fremlin died March 10, 2010 in Fillmore.  He was born July 3, 1915 to Rudolph A. Fremlin and Stella Deardorff, at home in an apricot orchard in Bardsdale.  He began his long career as an engineer at the age of three years when his curiosity of his father's car prompted him to find the starter, driving the car through the back wall of the garage.  In 1923 he moved to Sespe and Fillmore Schools, graduating from Fillmore High in 1932.  He graduated from Ventura College in 1935 and Stanford University in 1938 with an engineering degree. 

     Ray worked briefly at the Texaco Refinery in Fillmore from 1939 to 1941, Douglas Aircraft in Santa Moncia from 1941 to 1944, Officer in the U. S. Navy from 1946 to 1956, U. S. Naval Missal Test Center, Point Mugu, 1956 to 1973, and Lockheed Aircraft from 1973 to 1981.

     In 1947, Ray married Eva Schwartz (1920-1974) of Fillmore.  Their children were son, Joel and daughter Susan.  He married Janeth Peterson Keen Madsen of San Jose (1976-1997).  In 1997 he retired to Eugene, OR.  In 2006, Ray married his childhood sweetheart, Harriet Cobb Phillips of Ventura.  Ray and Harriet attended many alumni dinners in their years together.

     Ray is survived by his wife, Harriet of Fillmore; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Fremlin; grandsons, Jeffery and Adam Fremlin; grandaughter, Erika; great grandson, Dokota Fremlin of Watsonville.  He is also survived by his sister, Janet Cox of Ventura and sister-in-law, Patty Fremlin of Grants Pass. OR.  He was preceded in death by sister, Vera Fremlin, brother Guy Fremlin and sister

     Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 19 at the Bardsdale Cemetery.  A memorial following at the home of Ray's niece, Martha and Mark Gentry in Bardsdale.
