Dean, his parents and brothers moved to Fillmore from North Dakota in the 1920's.   He attended Fillmore High School and graduated in 1940, holding the title of class President.  In June of 1942 he married Maxine Basolo.  With World War II in full swing, Dean enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  He held the title of Seaman First Class and First Gunner on a merchant naval vesssel in the Pacific.  Several of Dean's proudest positions he held inthe community were American Legion Post Commander and member of the U. Morris, and finally, manager for the Filmore Veteran's Memorial Building, Library and Scout House.

Dean and Maxine made Fllmore their home for over 67 years, raising their children Deana, Sally and Vernon.  The Kenfield home was always open to family and friends alike, with many a birthday, wedding and barbecue taking place.  Oh, and many trips to Dean's pipe room for a history lesson.
