Fillmore High Alumni Scholarships 2007 23 Mar 07

    Applications for alumni scholarships and grants were received on Friday, February 23--all 36 of them.

     The scholarship committee (five members) have been reviewing these applications. The applications included:  Volunteer work performed (non-school activity), community organizations, church involvement, school activities - Co-Curriculum, school activities - athletics, and outside work experience.

     There is a point system for each of these activities.

     These points are added together and the graduates listed by these points.

     A cut off point has been established and students qualifying for personal interviews meet with, the points from the interviews are added to the sub-total and you have the first, second, third, etc. placement on the giving of the awards.

      Scholarship winners are then required to attend the alumni dinner held in June. Parents are invited to attend at a small fee for the dinner with the scholarship winner being the alumni's guest.

       After enrolling in college, etc. after August 15, but before Dember 1, the student submits proof of enrollment at the college or university. One half of the scholarship money is then mailed to the recipient.

      At the end of the first semester, prior to March 31st. a copy of the student's record of the first semester, verification of enrollment for second semester, plus a statement telling the scholarhship committee of their feelings, experiences and accomplishments during the past semester must be mailed to the scholarship committee.

     Appllications for continuation scholarships are available the next year. These continuation scholarships are due July 1 as the deadline for application processing; however, applicaions may be submtted at any time.
