Web Site - Class Reps, Class '86 Reunion

Flashback Issue #10, Graduate Questionnaire

Flashback Subsciption, & Volunteers

Website:

You alumni website is at a stand still at the moment since our webmaster has been working on a rush project. Your comments and recommendations are being listed and action will be taken as quickly as possible. Please don't become discouraged because no action is taken immediatley.

Class Reps:

Several class Reps have contacted the alumni office. Questions are answered as quickly as possible. However, we don't have a rush from you graduates to have a class member or two from your class to be responsible for you class. The idea is to "funnel" ideas to this represenative to the class from the alumni. And from the class rep to the alumni.

In this way the Alumni will be serving the classes even more than what is being done at the present time. So, volunteer to be a Class Rep!

Class of '86 Reunion

This reunion with the leadership of Debbi Chessani chessanid@hotmail.com is being held this weekend at the Towers Club in Oxnard. It still isn't too late to let Debbi know you are coming. Putting on a class reunion is a real challenge but with cooperation from classmates it is a worthwhile project.

Flashbacks

Issue No. 10 of Flashbacks will soon be in the mail. If you are not a subscriber, why not mail in your $20 so you have a copy? A form to complete for a subscription is under the form heading! Don't delay; do it today please.

Graduate Questionnaire

This questionnaire when completed is given to the career center at the high school. In this way, you as graduates are giving counseling and advice to the seniors and other students at the high school. The students do appreciate the information given to them when you have already been in the trenches.

Volunteers

There is always a space for volunteers in the office. Sometimes there are projects that can be taken home and then returned when completed. If you have some time, please let the alumni office know. There are projects of "checking accuracy", recording questinnaires, putting things in order in the office such as applications for scholarships, past dinner reservations and many other small items that just take time to accomplish.

Working together - the alumni board of directors and the graduates of Fillmore High we can have a bigger and better alumni association.

Tax Reports - Listings/Website - Perpetuity - Scholarships
It seems to be when you talk to a tax accountant that non-profits are the worst bookeepers. The Alumni Association wants to make them wrong and has been gathering all the tax information. You then find that the financial institution doesn't send out 1099 forms! However, we have a geat organization that gives us the information. So another hurdle is taken care of. But do a little praying on Friday when the accountant comes to complete the taxes for 2005.
We also have a great young man getting all this tax "stuff" for the income tax report. We don't want to be one of those non-profits organizations that doesn't do the taxes correctly.
Have been very busy updating the life and life spouse membership listings. These will then be placed on the website. The listings will be alphabetic by last name, by maiden name and by year of graduation.
It is interesting to note that the life and life/spouse memberships are creating interest and this interest is transferred to the alumni association each month. This interest what keeps the alumni association going. It is interesting to note also that these funds will go in perpetuity when we are all gone!
Grants and scholarship requests by awardees are being sent the day the request is received in the alumni office. It is always a great feeling to send out these checks to the recent graduates of Fillmore High by the older members of Fillmore High. You and the alumni have helped many graduates over the years and with the help of all this shall continue. We have graduates at Columbia, Harvard, UCLA, USC, and many other universities.

Vision 2020

Vision 2020 - Life Members listing - Website - Scholarship checks - Volunteers

Saturday at the Vision 2020 Faire, Margaret Haskell, secretary, Corinna Mozley, website, Dick Mosbarger, vice president and scholarship chairperson and Conway Spitler, Treasurer and Executive Director represented the Fillmore High Alumni and the Fillmore High Scholarship Foundation. Our alumni was there with 20 other organizations to "advertise" their wares to the public which did not come.

It was sad that so few people attended. The four of us did make good discussions and recommendations for various aspects of the alumni association.

Much effort has been put in updating the Life and Life/Spouse membership listing. We now have the listing by Last name, year of graduation, male and female, married name and maiden name.

This information, when time permits, will be added to the web site.

Information is being collected for us to have added to the web site. Information you as graduates want on the website. So, let us know what you want us to place.

The alumni continues to mail checks to the scholarship recipients. A check is mailed the same day the proof of registration at college is received. Also instructions as to what must be done to receive the second half of their scholarship or award.

Remember the Fillmore Alumni Association  is your organization. The officers work diligently to keep up our good name and to supply graduates with the information they wish. Everyone should subscribe to the Flashbacks.

Let us know what you want in the Flashbacks. If not a subscriber, please join us with a subscription of $20.00 a year. The newsletters contain many items of interest to each and every graduate of Fillmore High.

Save the date of June 9, 2007. This is the next alumni dinner. The officers are always looking for ideas that you feel will make the dinner a greater event than those in the past.

Volunteers are always needed for little jobs doing this and that. If you have a liking for assisting us in the office, or at home, please contact the alumni office. There are many little jobs liking updating lists, sorting and naming pictures, etc. Let us know what you want to do and we will assist you in doing it.

Alumni News

Good News - Life and Life Spouse listings - Updates - Vision 2020 Faire - Website
With the assistance of Brian in Rep. Gallegly's office we have been given a reprieve--the late penalty of $5,700 has been removed. A good thank you to the representative's office was given. It will mean we may use the money for what it was supposed to be used for--giving scholarships!
Life and Life Spouse membership lists have been updated. It has been a chore to make certain everyone who has become a life member is listed. It has been interesting to see marriages and divorces and deaths that occur when you are doing a listing of the life and life/spouse membeships.
It has been interesting to receive updates of addresses, marriages, etc. Hope you realize there is only one here keeping track of all of you and you are one that could let us know what your latest information is! It is interesting to see how the graduates of Fillmore High are spread all over the USA.
Hope to see a number of you are the Vision 2020 Faire held this Saturday in Central Park. This fair is an opportunity for all organizations to "show" what they do and see if they could "snatch" a few more volunteers. Every organization needs individuals to help that organization stay alive. Our thanks go out to Steve McClary for his work in getting this affair off the ground. It takes a lot of work indeed.
Still awaiting the Quick Books man, Brian, from Valencia to give the go ahead of 2006. Lots of work; however, the results will make reports--including the income tax report--easier for all concerned.
The website continues to have new additions. An updated life and life/spouse listing has been done as has been suggested by graduates. When time permits, it is hoped the listing will be by name, year of graduation, male and female and whatever helps the association keep track of the Fillmore High Graduates.

Alumni News

Website

Each day new items are being added to the alumni website with more to come. our feedback is most welcome. The website has caused more interest in the association and the scholarships given.

At the moment we have many irons on the fire--the income tax penalty for lateness, the income tax filing for 2005, the posting of 2006 with the Quick Books Pro.

Scott Duckett '87, Webmaster, has been updating items. Your executive director has been updating the life and life spouse memberships sorting by last name, maiden name, and year of graduation. These are two impressive lists.

As started earlier, we cannot post 2006 yet because we are awaiting the final report for the tax man for 2005. Adjustments have to be made with securities and such. It just takes time.

Some members have been sending in suggestions and these suggestions are appreciated very much.

There are plans in making to get the Flashbacks to you via e-mail, getting more class information to you and a long list of other items. This all takes time and money. Your memberships helps support these activities to make the alumni association greater and better serving the graduates of Fillmore High, These all take time and work to accomplish.

Where are the graduates to help? There are numerous little probjects that may be done. However, the biggest to be an active board member giving direction to the executive director in the operation of the association.

At present we are working on the October 7 showing of the alumni in the Vision 2020 Faire in the City Park. Over 30 organizations were invited to participate. What to do? Well, show off what their organization does and "grab" all that are willing to assist that particular organization. Hope to see you October 7 at the Alumni table.

  Let us hear from you!
